Tying a drop shot rig – step by step

The Drop Shot Rig bind quickly and reliably if you follow a clear sequence. This ensures everything sits perfectly and your lure moves optimally in the water.

1. Tie the hook with a Palomar knot

Bind the desired hook (nose hook, offset, or wide gap) to your fluorocarbon line using a Palomar knot. This knot is extremely durable and ensures that the hook stays in the correct position.

2. Set the distance between the hook and the lead

The standard distance is 30–50 cm. For long casts or deeper areas, you can increase the distance to up to 1.5 m. This lets you adjust the rig flexibly to the water and the fish’s mood.

3. Attach the weight

At the end of the line, a drop shot weight with a pinch clip eyelet is attached. Advantage: You can quickly adjust the height of the lure without retying. Cylinder weights are great for weedy spots, teardrop weights for sandy or gravelly bottoms.
